On April 25, 2008, Williamson County wrapped up the Adopt a Troop Donation Drive and took the collected items to Fort Hood.
For over a month donation drop boxes have been set up in 11 county offices to collect items such as batteries, hand sanitizers, games and cards.
“The drive was a huge success,” said Commissioner Valerie Covey. “The employees and residents of Williamson County really stepped up.”
The County was able to deliver over 500 books and magazines, 100 batteries and over 800 stuffed animals to give out to Iraqi children.
“This is great,” said Captain Kelsy Williams of the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade. “It will be great for the soldiers who come into the MWR to get what they need.”
Though the donation drive is over, Williamson County is still accepting monetary donations to help plan activities with soldiers’ families once they have been deployed to Iraq.
