Commissioner Valerie Covey

In November 2006, Valerie Covey was elected to represent Williamson County Precinct Three on the Williamson County Commissioner’s Court by serving out the unexpired term of the late S. Thomas McDaniel. Commissioner Covey has established herself as a leader in the county who has the courage to stand up for her beliefs and for Precinct Three.

Commissioner Covey serves the county by participating on various boards and committees, including: the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter Board, the Williamson County Mental Health Committee, the Williamson County Conservation Foundation, the Williamson County Audit Committee, and Williamson County Investment Committee.

In 2007, Commissioner Covey became the representative for Williamson County in the Adopt-A-Unit program that supports Fort Hood troops and their families. She has worked to build relationships between county employees and members of the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade by organizing events such as, Meet Your Troops, a dinner event that included Williamson County officials, city officials, and officers from the Combat Aviation Brigade. She also worked to bring a video teleconference to the Georgetown Ninth Grade Center, an event that allowed students to speak and ask questions to soldiers and Iraqi citizens in real time.

Covey is an active member of the Williamson County Republican Party, Georgetown Area Republican Women, The Republican Club of Sun City, Williamson County Republican Women, Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, and First Baptist Church of Georgetown.

For Commissioner Covey, integrity goes far beyond the Commissioner’s Courtroom; it extends into every facet of her life. In early 2008, Commissioner Covey forged a bond with the City of Georgetown to pursue construction on FM 2338, a project that was abandoned by the Texas Department of Transportation. She has made this one of her top priorities, citing that it is of the utmost importance to address the safety and mobility issues in the county.

A true red, white, and blue Texan, Commissioner Covey was born and raised in Pleasanton, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a degree in accounting and has been licensed as a certified public accountant for more than 20 years.  She and her husband of over 22 years, Mark Covey, are blessed with three boys: Matthew, a high school senior; Zachary, a 9th grader; and Joshua, a 5th grader, and for more than 14 years Commissioner Covey and her family have built a life on strong Christian values and Texan integrity in Georgetown, Texas.
