CR 104 Closed to Traffic - Tuesday, May 06, 2008
C.R. 104 will be closed to through traffic from SH 29 to Rockney Road starting Friday, May 2, until the completion of the road improvement project, scheduled for the end of July 2008.  Williamson County is partnering with TxDOT to widen SH 29 to include a two-lane left turn lane onto C.R. 104 and a traffic signal into Georgetown East View High School.  Williamson County also will reconstruct existing C.R. 104 into a 4-lane roadway with storm sewer, curb and gutter.  The road was designed by Steger Bizzell and will be constructed by Cash Construction. The construction contract cost is just under $2 million. 
 


Donation Drive Wraps Up - Friday, May 02, 2008

On April 25, 2008, Williamson County wrapped up the Adopt a Troop Donation Drive and took the collected items to Fort Hood. For over a month donation drop boxes have been set up in 11 county offices to collect items such as batteries, hand sanitizers, games and cards.

Williams Drive - Wednesday, April 30, 2008
     Originally FM 2338 (DB Wood to FM 3405) was a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) project, but in the summer of 2007 TxDOT pulled funding for construction cost, which removed $13-$14 million dollars from the project.
     In light of the new situation, Williamson County Commissioner, Valerie Covey, approached the City of Georgetown and asked if they would partner with the county and her to get this project underway. The City of Georgetown agreed that this was a worthy project, and requested $8.8 million in funding from Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO).  The city and the county agreed to split the cost of $2.5 million dollars.

Preserved Named "Twin Springs Preserve" - Thursday, April 24, 2008

     April 23, 2008 (Williamson County, TX) -- The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved the name “Twin Springs Preserve” for the county’s recently acquired 145-acre property located near Lake Georgetown.  Also on Tuesday, the court approved adding to the preserve 13 acres that are adjacent to the property and accepted $13,000 from Whitney Development as compensation for assuming management of the property.  The additional 13 acres has an existing fence to separate it from nearby homes.

Crisis Respite Center - Monday, March 31, 2008

In 2007, the Texas Legislature appropriated $82 million for the 2007-2009 biennium, to enhance mental health crisis services in Texas. Guided by the Legislature and in response to Rider 69 of the appropriations bill, these funds will allow the State of Texas to make significant progress toward improving the response to mental health and substance abuse crises. The appropriation is intended to specifically support a redesigned crisis service system and allows local Community MHMR Centers to work with stakeholders in their communities to determine the best use of funds.

Preservation Plan - Thursday, March 13, 2008

It might be hard for one to image that some bugs, birds, a lizard and a cave would be worth $2 million, but to Williamson County Commissioners, it was worth every penny because these bugs, birds, and lizards will enable the county to develop land while abiding to the Endangered Species Act.

Operation Covey - Thursday, February 21, 2008
     On February 20, students at the Georgetown Ninth Grade Center got a chance to speak directly with Iraqi citizens and American soldiers stationed in Baghdad. 
     Thanks to county, military and school district involvement, the project dubbed “Operation Covey” by troops stationed in Iraq was a great success.

Meet Your Troops - Wednesday, February 06, 2008

     On Saturday, February 2, 2008, Williamson County officials hosted a kick off to the "Adopt-a-Unit" program set up through Congressman John Carter. 
    The county is sponsoring part of the 4th Aviation Brigade that is stationed in Fort Hood, Texas.
   "It's about getting to know each other and building relationships before the troops leave for Iraq," said Rachel Rull.  
    According to county officials, this is the first of many gatherings that they will take part in over the next six months.
    Troops from the Combat Aviation Brigade will leave for Iraq later this year to serve out a 15 month tour there.
